Praying Wherever and
Whenever for Whoever
This morning was
pretty sweet and honestly what I believe should be the normal for Christians
wherever we go. My little brother was in town this weekend along with my good
friend Wesley from JMU. Before they left, we decided to grab some breakfast and
meet up with my best friend and his fiancé.
Our waitress was
a really kind woman named Tanya. Throughout our meal we really enjoyed her
friendliness and continually laughed with her throughout our time there. She mentioned
to us how her hand was hurt because she burnt it and how she had been in pain
all the while she had been serving us. I thought to myself, John 14:12 says we
can do the works that Jesus did and even greater than that, so why not pray
over Tanya’s hand and believe that God can heal it. I love praying for healing
for people because, honestly, even if healing doesn’t happen, I still get to
pray for someone and tell them just how much they are loved by the living God who
created them in his own image. Powerful and true stuff. So we all prayed over
Tanya’s hand and it was so sweet. She couldn’t believe we took the time away
from our meal to pray for her… the tables had turned… haha. Just from her smile
alone it was obvious how loved she felt and how abnormal the whole situation
was to her. She skipped back into the kitchen full of joy and acknowledgement
that even if her hand wasn’t healed from the prayer, her heart certainly was.
So we went on
with our meal and I had just stuffed some delicious pumpkin pancakes in my
mouth when all of the sudden I got a tap on my back. I turned around and
another waitress at the diner asked if we were the table praying for people.
Mouth full of food (sorry Mom), I exclaimed to the best of my ability that we
are totally praying for people and asked her how we could pray for her! She
asked if we could pray over her back for healing. Almost instantly God reminded
me of the verse in Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they will be filled.” This waitress was hungry for God to
encounter her with love and I was so honored to be a part of that. We laid our
hands on her back and prayed for healing. The fun part was during the prayer God
told me to pray for her to get back to the basics of being a Christian and
spend time with Him again- He missed spending time with her every day like they
used to. That was a word of knowledge that God wanted to give me so that I
would faithfully speak to her. When that kind of stuff happens I don’t plan on
disobeying God- plus it’s really fun to see people get the craziest reactions
when they realize God really does know
them and has been pursuing them.
Anyway, we were given the chance to pray for this other waitress and she too
lit up with a smile and a heart that was touched by the living God.
That’s not all
though… moments later another waitress came up to us and asked us what church
we go to and if she could come with us to church sometime because she wanted to
reciprocate God’s love for her and try loving Him again.
On my way out I
got to pray over the owner of the diner. With all the praying going on I wasn’t
surprised when she asked if we could pray over her children who are yet to
acknowledge God’s love for them. We all held hands and prayed for her children
and also empowered her as completely equipped to boldly speak life into her
children as well. It was a beautiful moment.
So there you
have it. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing or who you’re
with- God can always move. 1Corinthians 3:16 says “don’t you know that you
yourself are God’s temple and that His spirit lives within you?” If Jesus
Christ live in your heart, you have something that the world needs. Wherever
you go, ask God how he can use you and if you’re serious about it- He will.
